Google I/O hackathon day 1. The city felt unreal.

May 23, 2026 · Day 78

First full day in San Francisco. The Google I/O hackathon kicked off and I spent the entire day building Talon, an autonomous agent system with contextual memory. The environment was intimidating at first — everyone around me had PhDs, millions raised, years of experience. But as the day went on I realized most of these people weren’t operating on some unreachable level. The difference was consistency and time spent building, not raw genius.

No time for ibx tracking. The entire focus was on building and absorbing the atmosphere. Waymos everywhere. Anthropic a minute away. Vercel billboards. Startup logos that only existed on my feed suddenly became physical objects surrounding me.

What moved

  • built Talon at Google I/O hackathon
  • explored SF: saw Waymos everywhere, AI labs, startup infrastructure
  • realized the future is constructed by normal people inside ordinary buildings

Takeaway

The first day in SF already collapsed the distinction between the internet version of the city and the real one. Ambition here is physical.
